I had a great time over at Burning Life 07 with Miulew Takahe, a fellow SL composer. I was checking out a great installation he recently provided the music for. The installation was created by Kid Kuhn.
I discussed the idea behind the installation with them both briefly. “Well I had a troll avi that I made, and it inspired me to do something bigger, to try to enhance the feeling of the avi.” said Kuhn, “in Sweden trolls are an important part of our mythology. Perhaps if I try to do some self analysis here, there are issues of feeling safe with the idea of keeping history”
The relaxing music Muilew created was cleverly scripted into objects which played random loops, creating an ever changing landscape of sound. However as we noted in our discussion, the preloading requirements of such long amounts of audio can be troublesome. We also discussed the way which sounds seem to change radically upon upload – perhaps due to the ogg compression used in the SL architecture, but also perhaps due to other processing ?
These are some of the things I want to explore with the upcoming Metamusic group discussions.
