Second Life is definitely changing in terms of in world media. Over the last few weeks I have noticed a distinct increase in attention to the subject of audio ( and video ) in world, and the importance of increased immersion. Jesse Linden has showed great interest in the metamusic group and its discussions, as well as outlining the Linden Lab intention to enable free development of the various media streaming technologies that are being developed at the moment. ( See yesterdays dramatic post ! ) I even arrived at Prosero Linden’s office hours to some new environmental sounds he had implemented at his “office”.
In other news, I’m very happy to have been invited to cover part of next week’s Virtual Worlds Forum event in London for the Second Life News Network. This will be a great chance to listen to some of the key players outlining their vision for the metaverse – including representatives of : Linden Lab, There.com, Rivers Run Red, Vivox, Electric Sheep Company, Forterra Systems, IBM and Wello Horld.

I cannot tell you how many people have asked me if we are producing upcoming show in London. We are not. The Virtual Worlds Forum is not produced by Virtual Worlds Management. The organizers of that event have repeatedly referred to it as the Virtual Worlds Conference, inviting confusion with our Virtual Worlds Conference and Expo which was just held in San Jose and our Virtual Worlds 2007 Conference in New York earlier this year. Given the confusion I decided to register to attend the event in London but Sasha Frieze, the event’s organizer, emailed me, telling me I’m not allowed to attend because I am a competitor. Not cool since she attended our Virtual Worlds Conference in New York in March. She even asked for and received a discount for that show. I’m all for fair competition but Virtual Worlds Forum management has pushed this to the edge, deliberately creating confusion in the marketplace. I’m trying to be proactive with this post. I hope this clears the issue.

Thanks for that Chris, I have modified the post to correctly display the event title in full.
